Alexandria, VA Furnace Repair & Replacement

Historic Alexandria, VA

Founded in 1749, Alexandria was an early location for tobacco trade as a busy port town. The community was named in honor of the family of Captain Philip Alexander II, who moved to the area around the time of its founding. The community has had a prominent place in national history as it is located less than 10 miles from Washington D.C. In fact, Old Town was actually included in the District of Columbia in 1791 and was later returned to Virginia in 1846. The first deaths for both sides in the Civil War were recorded in Alexandria.

Alexandria Demographic Information

At the time of the U.S. Census of 2010, Alexandria had a population of nearly 140,000. Nearly 10 percent of residents are over the age of 65, and nearly 18 percent are under the age of 18. Graduation from high school is a priority, represented by a 91-percent graduation rate among adults over 25 years of age. More than 60 percent of those over 25 years of age also hold bachelor’s degrees or higher. The median household income for the community is nearly $86,000, and the per capita income is more than $54,600.

Education in the Community

Area students are educated through Alexandria City Public Schools, a district that was recognized as a 2012 Magna Award winner. A total of 16 public schools cater to the needs of students. The district boasts an excellent average class size, which allows for greater individual attention to be provided in the learning setting.
Alexandria residents have access to at least 13 colleges and universities within a 50-mile radius. These include George Mason University in nearby Fairfax as well as prestigious Washington D.C. institutions like Georgetown University. Both graduating high school students and adults seeking to further their studies have plenty of opportunities in the area.

Area Attractions and Resources

Because of Alexandria’s proximity to Washington D.C., the community is rich in access to national landmarks. The city’s own historic buildings are treasures as well, allowing locals and visitors to appreciate the scenic beauty of area architecture. The Potomac River offers boating or the simple pleasure of a waterfront stroll, and quaint restaurants, parks, and shops in the area provide a relaxing backdrop for one’s leisure time.
