How to Maintain an HVAC Warranty for Your Heating and Cooling Systems
An HVAC warranty is a valuable addition to your purchase. But it’s important to understand how this coverage works. If you’re not mindful, you may accidentally void your warranty and lose the coverage that it should provide. Use these tips to keep the warranty active for the HVAC installation in your Springfield, Virginia, home:
Register the Warranty Promptly
When you purchase a product under warranty, you must register that warranty to activate it. In most cases, you have 60 days to register your warranty. You can typically do this online, by phone or by mail. You’ll need to provide proof of purchase to properly activate your warranty coverage.
Schedule Annual Maintenance
Most warranties require that you schedule maintenance once a year. This annual tuneup helps keep the system in prime condition and gives your service technician a chance to inspect the unit for any developing signs of trouble. If you neglect your regular maintenance calls, you may find that your warranty is no longer valid.
Use Authorized Parts
A manufacturer warranty will usually cover your heating or cooling system only when you use that manufacturer’s parts. While unauthorized parts may work in your system and can even come with a lower price tag, these will void your warranty. Make sure you use only authorized parts while your system is under warranty.
Work With a Licensed Contractor
All repairs and tuneups must be handled by a licensed HVAC service technician when your product is under warranty. This means that you cannot attempt any DIY repairs. The only maintenance task that you should handle yourself is a routine filter change.
With these tips, you’ll keep your HVAC warranty active through the duration of its coverage. If you have any questions about how to handle a repair while your system is under warranty, contact Brennan’s Heating & Air Conditioning at 703-783-0145.
