Fairfax, VA Air Conditioning Repair & Service
History of Fairfax, VA
Fairfax was founded in 1805 through action by Virginia’s state legislature. The community was named for Thomas Fairfax, who was given an extensive amount of land in the northern portion of the state by King Charles. The first land battle to occur during the Civil War took place at the community’s court house in 1861. Although the historic activity in the area has been extensive, the city was not independent until 1961.
Fairfax recorded a small population of 22,565 people during the 2010 Census. More than 20 percent of residents are children, and nearly 14 percent of residents are over the age of 65. Of those greater than 25 years of age, 92 percent have successfully completed high school, a fact that reflects a high priority on educational activities in the community. Nearly 52 percent of these adults also hold four-year college degrees or higher. The home ownership rate in the area is more than 68 percent, and the median household income is greater than $97,000.
