How to Manage Energy Bills During the Holidays

During the holiday season, you may notice that the energy bills at your Stafford, Virginia, home start to creep up. Between the colder temperatures and additional decorations that use electricity, the costs can rise drastically during this season. Check out these helpful tips to manage energy bills during the holidays:

Switch to LED Lighting

Christmas lights are some of the most popular decorations used across the nation. If you enjoy decorating the interior or exterior of your home with lighting, consider switching to LED bulbs. LED lights use up to 90 percent less electricity than incandescent lights, helping you to save a lot when you have multiple strands used as decorations.

In the past, LED holiday lights were much more expensive, but they have gone down in price. Along with LED lights, consider using a timer to manage how many hours per day your lights are illuminated.

Manage Heating Costs

When you host a gathering of loved ones, you can save a bit on energy bills by lowering the temperature on your thermostat. Additional bodies in the house help the temperature to rise on its own. Therefore, you don’t need to waste extra energy on heating the space.

If you’re hosting guests who will be staying with you, it’s important to note that everyone has a different temperature at which they feel most comfortable. Instead of cranking up the heat to accommodate, keep throw blankets, socks and other warm items around the house. That way, you can keep your bills under control while helping your guests stay comfy.

Schedule Duct Cleaning

Dirty air ducts can slow down the airflow in your HVAC system. Before the holiday season hits, schedule a professional duct cleaning service. When your ducts are clean, the air can move more freely. The indoor air quality will also improve, which is an added bonus.
